Just Poor Planning
Episode 30. Ira Gordon
On this episode of the podcast, we are joined by accidental entrepreneur and 33% of the reason many of us passed the NAVLE, Dr. Ira Gordon. Matt and Ira discuss closet size, being afraid to get a real job, and how famous he isn't.
Dr. Gordon founded a game called "stump the dumbass" with a few of his vet school classmates. This was since rebranded to a little company called VetPrep. This is an especially important and cathartic conversation for Matt; he vehemently thanks Ira for joining him on the podcast!
In Faith and In Under-standing

Episode 28. Beth Venit
On this episode of the podcast we are joined by fellow Veterinary Innovation Summit attendee and doctor of many letters, Dr. Beth Venit! Matt and Beth have been the closest of pals for almost a full month! In this episode they discuss gardens, using AI to regulate itself, and having dinner ready when you come home.
Dr. Venit (VMD, MPH, DACVPM) is the chief veterinary officer of the American Association of Veterinary State Boards. She started her veterinary career working emergency medicine in the Northern Viginia / DC Metro area before gaining diplomate status, obtaining her MPH, and working for the US State Department. Although her real accomplishment to date was putting up with Matt for a whole hour.
This special episode was recorded live at the Veterinary Innovation Summit. Special thanks to the Veterinary Innovation Council for hosting us (along with Ryan Leech, Stacy Purcell, and Megan Sprinkle) at the Podcast Zone. Matt has always wanted to be “Press.”
Turns Things Upside Down
Episode 27. Cindy Trice
On this episode of the podcast, we are joined by the unwitting object of Matt’s professional jealousy, Dr. Cindy Trice! Matt and Cindy discuss the unexpected twists in life, haircuts, pajamas, and the art of being adaptable. Dr. Trice, a dynamic, resilient, and incredibly supportive force in the veterinary industry, shares stories of her journey.
Dr. Cindy Trice is the founder of Relief Rover, CoFounder of KickIt Pajamas, and the Chief Veterinary Officer at Hound. Of course, all of this has been accomplished at the expense of what could have been a promising career as an instructional video producer.

On the Pursuit of Academic Parasites
Episode 24. Matt Asciutto
On this episode of the podcast, our host, Matt Asciutto reflects back on how our early academic pursuits shape our entire worldview - and how often times we shape an entire life based on guidance that may or may not have any merit. This is true for veterinarians, of course; but any pre-professional student likely can see little pieces of their own journey in this as well. Thank you, Dr. Katherine Fogelberg, for stirring up some obviously deep emotions in our conversation from the previous episode (Episode 23) "Weird, Complicated Parasites."
By the end of the episode, we hope to offer an alternative view of an academically minded path - and some options about how to give advice to students coming up through the academia pipeline.
Weird, Complicated Parasites

Dr. Fogelberg is the Associate Dean for Professional Programs and Associate Professor at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine.
On Words to Say
Episode 22. Meanderings
